The east Nashville neighborhood of Five Points continues to grow in popularity and recently, two new businesses moved in near Woodland and 10th streets.
Five Points Animal Hospital built a nearly 5,000 square foot building on a previously vacant lot.
The hospital is the brain child of Dr. Janet Grace.
"I feel like I've been thinking about it and planning it for six or seven years, so it's kind of hard to believe that I'm here and we're open and it's everything I wanted it to be," she said, adding, "Everyone was driving out of the neighborhood to get care. It was a little scary. Everyone said, ‘We're in a recession, you want to open a business. That's so scary' but I did feel like there was a hole here."
In addition to the first veterinarian, Lee Wilson rents space from Dr. Grace and opened east Nashville's first sporting goods store, the Nashville Running Company.
"I needed to get out of the corporate world, kind of what was going through my mind. If I died tomorrow I'd be mad that I didn't try doing something," Wilson said.
The store is fueled in part by the ever growing East Nasty Running Club.
"Something about this neighborhood just gets in your blood," Wilson said. "I feel like when you live over here, you want to get involved in your community."
Five Points Pizza also recently opened in the area. Read more at FivePointsPizza.com.
