NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Metro police believe a carjacking and convenience store robbery were committed by the same suspect overnight Monday in Antioch.
First, officers said the male suspect carjacked a vehicle outside the Walmart store located on Hamilton Church Road at Murfreesboro Pike.
Metro police said the suspect approached a woman in the parking lot just before 11 p.m. and took her minivan at gunpoint.
"It was terrifying, it really was," the victim who did not want to be identified told Nashville's News 2.
She continued, "He had a gun pointed to my side and he said, ‘Scoot over.' I said, ‘No, you can just have the car' and he was like, ‘No', and I said, ‘No, you can have the vehicle' and he said, ‘No, scoot over or I'll shoot you.
According to the victim, she gave the man the keys to her vehicle and ran inside the store as fast as she could.
"He was nervous to begin with and he looked very young to me, so I knew I needed to get out, because if anything else went wrong, I was going be the one injured," she said, adding, "He already let me know he didn't have anything to live for and I told him I had kids, so I was getting out regardless, I was getting out if the car was or wasn't moving."
Twenty minutes later, a suspect with the same description robbed the Mapco store located on Old Hickory Boulevard at Nolensville Pike. He got away on foot with several hundred dollars.
Two hours later, around 1:30 a.m., the woman's stolen minivan was found at the Hickory Manor apartment complex behind the Walmart but the suspect was not located.
Metro police Capt. Ken Walburn said, "The suspect description is very similar, the businesses are close to each other and the timeframe is very close, but we have not been able to determine for sure if they are related or not."
The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s. He is said to be around five feet, eight inches tall weighing 120 to 150 pounds.
He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, a blue long sleeved shirt and red ski mask at the time of the crimes.
Investigators are taking a close look at surveillance video from the Mapco and hope to also review video from the Walmart.
