Construction on new roundabout to begin next week

Posted:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Beginning Tuesday, January 3 and for the next 11 months, two lanes of Eighth Avenue South at Lafayette Street in downtown Nashville will be closed for construction of the Korean Veterans Boulevard Roundabout and roadway extension.

Both northbound and southbound traffic on Eighth Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction approaching the Lafayette Street intersection.

In addition, northbound traffic on Lafayette Street will be reduced to one lane just south of the Eighth Avenue intersection.

Due to the duration of the lane closures, motorists are advised to use an alternate route into and out of downtown and Lower Broadway areas.

The city's public works department estimates the $10.7 million construction project will be complete by early December next year.

When complete, the Korean Veterans Boulevard Extension will be a new four-lane median divided roadway providing a connection between Fourth and Eighth avenues.

It will terminate with a multi-lane roundabout at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Lafayette Street.

The roundabout will be the city's second such intersection.  Nashville's only current roundabout is located off Music Row at Demonbreun Street.
