Christmas burglars hit Mt. Juliet neighborhood

MT. JULIET, Tenn. -

Christmas won't be the same this year at Bo and Donna Smith's house after someone broke into their home and stole all the wrapped presents under their tree.

"I look at that tree and I feel so sad," said Donna Smith, adding, "We did good to buy our presents this year and everything is just gone."

According to the Smiths, thieves broke into their home on Tumbleweed Trail in Mt. Juliet during the day on Thursday, while Bo was at work and Donna was out shopping.

"They kicked this door in with my dead bolt and it tore the frame plum off," Bo Smith explained.

The crooks got away with a TV, jewelry, guns and 20 or so Christmas gifts, most of them for the couple's three-year-old granddaughter.

"I don't even understand the mentality of a person who would do something like that," Bo Smith continued.  "Hopefully, it's somebody who needed it worse than we do."

Police say the thieves didn't stop at the Smith's house.  They also broke into two homes across the street, also stealing gifts from one of the homes.

The Smiths said they're determined to not to let burglars steal their holiday joy.

The family may not have anything to open on Christmas morning but say they are thankful they have each other.

Anyone with information about the break-ins should contact the Wilson County Sheriff's Department at 615-444-1412.
