Angel Tree program continues to give to those in need

On Tuesday, more than 50 volunteers spent time loading boxes of Christmas presents into cars of recipients of the Angel Tree program.

"We have 1,400 kids that we provide Christmas for and when I say supply Christmas we give coats, a complete outfit, two or three toys. It's Christmas in a box for a child," explained Lt Lorraina Crawford.

She continued, "When you can see that someone else is in need, that's a better Christmas present than anything when you can help them."

As recipients arrived, the Salvation Army shared the Christmas story with each of them.

In addition to the presents, the families were also given a Kroger gift card so they will have a hot meal this holiday season.

"We really do appreciate it," recipient Haley Grace said.

Grace, who is expecting her sixth child told Nashville's News 2 the generosity of those who give to the Angel Tree program is something she is grateful for.

"I don't have family down here [in Tennessee] and I live on a fixed income, so my kids, they will be extra happy," she said.

The Angel Tree program has provided gifts to families in need since 1981.
