NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The Metro Council Tuesday night is expected to give final approval for proposed multi-million dollar upgrades to LP Field.

The measure calls for nearly $27 million of upgrades to the Metro-owned facility, including a new sound system, HD scoreboards, fan lounges and elevators to the upper levels.

The stadium is not only home to the Tennessee Titans but also to the annual CMA Music Fest held each June, as well as some international soccer games.

The Titans and Mayor Karl Dean's administration believe the 12-year-old facility needs the proposed upgrades.

If the council approves the project, the improvements would be paid for by floating bonds.  A $2 ticket tax on most stadium events pays for the bonds.

"It just seem fair to all of us to have the people who go to LP Field to pay for the improvements instead of the general taxpayer," Metro Finance Director Rich Riebeling said.

The proposal is expected to pass on Tuesday night.

"I think it will pass with some discussion of, ‘Are we doing the right thing?'" at-large councilman Charlie Tygard said.

Pending council approval, the first round of improvements would be finished in 2012.

The Metro Sports Authority approved the upgrades early last month.
