Mindy McCready's time to return son to Fla. expires

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Country singer Mindy McCready has run out of time to return her five-year-old son to Florida where her mother, who has custody of the child, lives.

McCready took the boy, Zander, earlier this week and is reportedly in Nashville where she says she's unable to return her son because she is seven months pregnant with twins.

Late Thursday afternoon, WZVN-TV in Ft. Myers reported Judge James Seals signed an emergency pickup order for Zander, effective immediately at 4 p.m. ET.

By not fulfilling the order, McCready, who turned 36 on Tuesday, could be arrested.

On Wednesday, McCready's publicist Kat Atwood said her client has been "advising the court and others involved" that Zander is in danger, both physically and emotionally, at her mother's home and said McCready "took action to ensure her son's safety."

Since topping the country charts in the mid-1990s, McCready's life has been filled with domestic abuse, drug and DUI arrests and a suicide attempt.

In August, she filed a libel suit in Palm Beach County against her own mother over a story published in a tabloid newspaper.

Also in 2010, police went to McCready's mother's home for a report of an overdose, and McCready was taken to a Florida hospital.  However, neither the hospital nor McCready's publicist would say why McCready was hospitalized.

In 2008, McCready was admitted to a Nashville hospital after police said she cut her wrists and took several pills in a suicide attempt and in July 2007, she was accused of scuffling with her mother and resisting arrest at her mother's home in Florida.  She served 30 days in jail and also lost custody of her son.
