NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center will kick off its annual "A Country Christmas" celebration when it flips the switch to its holiday lights display Thursday night.

For the last 28 years, the light display has brought visitors from around the world to Middle Tennessee.

The display is truly something to see and it's no easy undertaking.

Each year, two million twinkling lights are strung on the outside of the hotel while 200,000 lights hung on the inside.

The Christmas display includes 15,000 poinsettias, 15 miles of garland and 10 miles of hand-tied ribbon.

Thursday's lighting is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m.

A Country Christmas runs Friday through January 3, 2012 and includes the 10th anniversary edition of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the world-famous Rockettes, ICE! featuring DreamWorks Animation's Merry Madagascar, Louise Mandrell's Christmas Dinner Party and much more.
