ETHRIDGE, Tenn. -

A Lawrence County deputy was injured after being involved in a suspect chase crash Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred on Highway 43 North in Ethridge, about 75 miles south of Nashville.

According to officials, Deputy Dennis Cody was assisting police in an attempt to catch a man that was believed to have robbed the CVS Pharmacy located on North Locust Avenue.

The suspect, who has been identified as Jeremy Johnson led authorities on short chase before crashing his 1994 Dodge pickup truck into Deputy Cody's patrol car.

Officials told Nashville's News 2 that Johnson topped a hill, lost control and stuck the patrol car on the passenger side.

After impact, Johnson continued traveling north on Highway 43 before he drove off the east side of the roadway and overturned multiple times.

Both Deputy Cody and Johnson were transported to a local hospital before being taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

It was unknown if Johnson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The roadway was shut down for several hours and reopened around 6:20 p.m.

Charges are pending in the incident.
