BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -
More than 25,000 people came out to the Maryland Farms YMCA to support the fight against breast cancer on Saturday.
Officials with the Susan G. Komen Foundation told Nashville's News 2 the Race for a Cure was the best turn out yet.
According to officials of the 13,000 runners and walkers registered, many were breast cancer survivors.
Rita Mattox is a three year cancer survivor.
She told Nashville's News 2 it was her third time to participate in the 5K and that she enjoys participating in events which raises awareness to the disease.
"I can't stop smiling when I look around and see everyone is supporting me and everybody else like me," Mattox said.
Wanda Holmes is a breast cancer survivor for 23 years.
"I feel like us cancer patients are [like] NFL players. We get knocked down, we get back up. We pull up our chains, we move forward," Holmes said with confidence.
The money raised at the event goes to supporting research, education and treatment programs for breast cancer.
The Nashville race raised more than 1.5 million dollars.
