MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A Murfreesboro police officer has been fired after it was discovered he had lied about inappropriately shooting at a fleeing burglary suspect earlier this year.

According to a report in the Daily News Journal, Finess Brown was fired over the incident which occurred in March.

During an investigation, Brown claimed he fired the gun during a scuffle but police later found inconsistencies in his stories.

Brown was placed on decommissioned status on April 1.

The newspaper reported that he had a history of violating departmental policy and had been decommissioned two other times.

The former officer was with the department for nearly seven years.
