Several accidents tie up traffic on I-24

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Wet roads caused a series of crashes Tuesday on Interstate 24 southeast of town.

Just before 10 a.m., a female driver lost control of her car, a black Chrysler Crossfire, and struck a wall near the exit to Interstate 440.

While she was waiting for police to arrive, a second vehicle, a white Oldsmobile Alero, spun out, struck a light pole and ran off the side of the interstate.

Moments later, a white van collided with a blue Toyota SUV.

All three incidents occurred in the westbound lanes in the same vicinity around the same time.  The roadway was partially blocked for about 40 minutes.

No one was injured.  The crashes have since been cleared.

At 10 a.m., another wreck was reported just past the Blue Hole Road overpass and past Haywood Lane exit also in the westbound lanes.

Police said the driver of a tractor trailer lost control and slammed into a concrete median causing the big rig to catch on fire.

The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

One eastbound lane at mile marker 58 and three of the four westbound lanes were shut down for several hours.

The eastbound lane reopened around 12 p.m.

TDOT estimated it would be 2 p.m. before the crash was cleared, median repaired and all westbound lanes reopened.
