NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville may be America's Music City but it's also the nation's manliest, according to a new study released Thursday from Sperling's Best Places.
The "Mecca of manliness," as described by the study's author, is No. 1 thanks to a high number of NASCAR fans, the popularity of hunting and fishing and the number of barbecue restaurants.
Nashville moved up from No. 4 last year to No. 1 this year.
Last year's manliest city, Charlotte, North Carolina, was No. 2, followed by Oklahoma City, Cincinnati and Denver.
New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco ranked as the nation's least manly.
Cities lost points if they had a lot of minivans and foreign cars registered.
They also got dinged for home decor stores, coffee shops and sushi restaurants, as well as subscriptions to magazines like Martha Stewart Living and Vanity Fair.
