NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The damages trial for a woman who was shackled during labor is scheduled to begin this week.

Juana Villegas was nine months pregnant when Berry Hill police arrested her for careless driving in 2008.

Sheriff's deputies booked Villegas, an undocumented immigrant into Metro jail where she went into labor while restrained.

In April, a judge ruled officers violated her civil rights.

Villegas is seeking compensation for physical and emotional pain and distress.

The trial will determine what compensation, if any, Villegas is entitled to.
