NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 24-year-old Nashville man was killed early Monday morning after colliding with a semi-truck on Interstate 40 in Donelson.
The crash was reported around 12:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes at Briley Parkway.
Metro police said Jacob Lane, the driver of a white pickup truck, was killed after he struck the back of the tractor trailer.
Lane was not wearing a seatbelt and pronounced dead at the scene.
A baggie containing 24 hydrocodone pills was found in his pocket.
Investigators said evidence shows the driver of the tractor trailer, Don Woodard, 36, of Memphis, had just entered I-40 West from Briley Parkway when Lane, who was traveling at highway speeds, ran into him.
Woodard was not injured and police said he would not be charged.
The roadway was shut down for several hours. Drivers were diverted off the interstate and onto Briley Parkway.
The interstate reopened just before 6:30 a.m.
The pickup truck Lane was driving was towing a red car. That vehicle's owner told police Lane picked up the car to repair it for her.
She said she was unsure why he picked up the vehicle at such a late hour.
