Man concerned over condition of neighbor's miniature horses

CEDAR HILL, Tenn. – A man believes that several horses located at the Serenity Hill Farm in Robertson County are not being cared for properly.

Fred Wesche told Nashville's News 2 the animals appear to be malnourished.

"When you can see all the bones like that, that horse is starving," he said, adding, "This has been going on for at least two or three years now."

In March 2010, the Robertson County Sheriff's Office requested that extension agent Paul Hart of the University of Tennessee examine the horses and property.

During the walk through Hart wrote in a report that he did not find any evidence of abuse or neglect.

However, Wesche is doubtful of the findings.

"I don't know really know if they seen everything they should have seen," he said.

Wesche told Nashville's News 2 he doesn't know how anyone can look at the horses and believe they are healthy.

"I wouldn't own one of these horses because they are in bad shape," he said, adding, "I mean, you can see their spines, you can see their hip sockets and you can see their ribs."

Nashville's News 2 spoke with the owner of the horses, Virginia Johnson who declined to speak on camera.

She said she takes in abused horses and that some of them came to her in poor condition.

Wesche said he still feels like the animals are still in danger.

"I would like to see the horses get someplace where they can get a little bit better taken care of," he said.

The Robertson County Sheriff's Office told Nashville's News 2 an officer was on the farm on Friday and did not see any evidence of abuse.
