HUMPREHEYS CO., Tenn. – Three Humphreys County deputies have been placed on administrative leave while the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation continues to examine the beating of a man in January.
A deputy's dash camera recorded the incident involving Darrin Ring.
In the video, deputies can be seen repeatedly hitting Ring with their batons, punching him with their fists and kicking him.
During the incident, Ring was stripped naked and shot with a taser by a Waverly police officer while lying in the snow outside an acquaintance's home.
He suffered multiple fractured ribs, a punctured lung and contusions over his body.
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis was made aware of the formal initiation of the investigation on Friday.
"The department had not taken any official action until now because we feel the deputies involved in this incident have the same due process rights as every other citizen of Humphreys County," he said in a release. "Now that the investigation has officially begun, I am placing the deputies involved on administrative leave with pay."
Davis said the department will continue to cooperate with investigators.
