SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - V.E. Day won in his stakes debut to give jockey Jose Lezcano his 2,000th victory, yesterday in the $100,000 Curlin at Saratoga Race Course. Trailing the field of nine 3-year-olds into the far turn, V.E. Day swung to the far outside down the stretch and outfinished Charge Now.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A Keeneland official says the race track doesn't want construction under way when next year's Breeders' Cup is held there and is putting off plans to build a facility for instant racing. The Lexington Herald-Leader says Lexington's Board of Adjustment granted a 60-day postponement of the track's application for a special permit to build the facility.
