LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Patrick Towles says he felt relieved after winning the competition to be Kentucky's starting quarterback. He says he's "super excited" to get the opportunity he has worked so hard to get. Towles will be under center for the Wildcats' Aug. 30 season opener against Tennessee-Martin.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Former NFL linebacker Tim Shaw has announced that he has ALS. In a video posted Tuesday on the Tennessee Titans' web site, the 30-year-old Shaw reveals he was recently diagnosed before pouring a bucket of ice water on his head as part of the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money and awareness to battle ALS.

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - Sam Slaughter homered twice and drove in six runs to help Nashville, Tennessee, beat Canada 12-9 in a consolation game Tuesday at the Little League World Series. The catcher hit three-run homers in the first and fifth innings, while third baseman Blake Money hit a solo shot in the fifth.
