NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Supreme Court has ordered a new trial for a woman convicted of stabbing her mother to death as a teenager. The court found errors in the case, and ruled that the lead prosecutor in the 2009 trial of Noura Jackson of Shelby County commented on her exercising her right to decline to testify.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Ten death row inmates are suing to prevent the state from using the electric chair as a backup execution device. Gov. Haslam in May signed into law the bill that makes Tennessee the only state where electrocutions can be imposed should it be unable to obtain drugs needed to give lethal injections.

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Greene County judge has dismissed charges against an outspoken opponent of the US Nitrogen plant. Bybee restaurateur Eddie Bruce Overholt was charged with disrupting a meeting last month of the Greene County Industrial Development Board. He had asked board members to speak up.

ATLANTA (AP) - The National Weather Service says storms this week spawned a tornado that left a telltale path of destruction in north Georgia near the Georgia-Tennessee state line. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports a weather survey team confirmed that a tornado touched down Wednesday in Gilmer County.
