Vanderbilt cruises past Belmont, 10-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Sonny Gray gave up just three hits in six innings as Vanderbilt cruised to a 10-0 victory over Belmont in the Nashville regional of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night.

Vanderbilt (48-10), playing in its sixth straight regional, jumped out in front in the first inning and Gray did the rest. The right-hander retired 14 straight batters before giving up a two-out single to Greg Brody in the fifth inning. Gray (11-3) let just one base runner reach second and struck out three. Three relief pitchers combined for the last three innings.

Belmont (36-25), playing in its first regional in program history, looked shaky but stayed within two runs through three innings. The game got away in the sixth when starting pitcher Matt Hamann (9-2) allowed five hits, committed two fielding errors and threw two wild pitches, which led to six runs.

Eight Vanderbilt batters recorded a hit - for 15 total, 14 coming off Hamann. Anthony Gomez led the Commodores with three hits and Curt Casali drove in three runs. Greg Brody had two hits for Belmont.
