JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - A man driving a pickup truck in Madison County ran into three horseback riders, killing a 12-year-old girl before fleeing the scene on foot.
The driver of a 1984 Chevrolet pickup first struck a horse ridden by 21-year-old Matthew Webb and 12-year-old Amber Kendrick, according to an account given by the sheriff's office to The Jackson Sun.
The truck then struck a second horse, ridden by 20-year-old John Thomas Gobbell.
Kendrick and both the horses were killed, and the two men suffered minor injuries.
The sheriff's office says after the collision, the shirtless driver got out and removed the license plate from his truck before leaving the scene on foot.
Deputies were called at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
