Ft. Campbell soldier killed in car crash identified

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Fort Campbell soldier that was fatally injured in a single vehicle crash on Saturday morning has been identified.

Anthony Perez, 20, was killed in the accident that occurred on Interstate 24 eastbound around 8:45 a.m.

Perez was a backseat passenger in the vehicle that overturned after the driver of the vehicle, Jason Figueroa, 29, drove off the roadway and overcorrected the mistake.

According to authorities, the soldier was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident and was ejected from the vehicle.

He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died on Sunday.

Figueroa told authorities that he was driving Perez and another soldier to the Nashville International Airport at the time of the accident.

Figueroa and the other soldier remain in stable condition at a local hospital.

Police said there was no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement.
