Fairgrounds supporters collect thousands of signed petitions

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After sending out thousands of petitions to help save the Nashville Fairgrounds, supporters say they only need 5,000 more signatures to place the referendum on the upcoming ballots.

Supporter and Metro councilman Jamie Hollin said as of Thursday, supporters had collected more than 10,000 signatures needed for the "Save the Fairgrounds" referendum.

Hollin recently told Nashville's News 2 in order to get the referendum on the ballot, he, along with other supporters must get at least 10% or 15,700 signatures from Davidson County voters who cast ballots in the last election.

According to the councilman, since the referendum would be placed on the ballot in a general election, there will be no cost to taxpayers.

Hollin and supporters only have a total of three weeks to gather and turn in the thousands of signatures needed to the election commission
