NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Some local florists are forced to raise delivery prices just before Mother's Day due to the high costs of gas.
David Baston is the manager of Lenox by All Occasions Flowers. He told Nashville's News 2 that he keeps a close eye on the cost of gas as it nears four dollars per gallon.
"It's affecting everybody as in dollar wise. The more people spend at the gas pump, the less they spend in flowers and elaborate things that they don't really need," he said.
Due to the increasing gas prices, Batson said he was left with no other choice but to increase prices on delivery fees.
"We had to increase our delivery by two dollars from $9.99 to $12.00. We are hoping we don't have to increase it this summer again," he explained.
Batson said that with Mother's Day in May his florist typically doubles their gas bill due to the extra deliveries.
Due to the increased deliveries expected in the upcoming days, the florist will be running eight or nine vans.
Lenox by All Occasions Flowers will continue Mother's Day deliveries through Sunday at 1 p.m.
