OLD HICKORY, Tenn. - North Pointe Community Church offered a one-of-a-kind service on Good Friday that is not typically associated with drive through services.
The Old Hickory church is located in a former bank on Gaile Drive.
Pastor David Thompson told Nashville's News 2 he thought it would be a good opportunity to put the bank equipment to use and offer a drive through church service.
"Being Good Friday, we wanted to have a 24 hour prayer vigil. We thought what a good opportunity to let the community know we care about them [and] we're concerned about their spiritual needs and we're here to pray for them," he explained.
The 24-hour vigil began at midnight Thursday.
Those who take advantage of the unique drive through church will deposit a burden, grief or sin and at the second window withdraw a handwritten prayer or blessing.
"Come by and deposit your prayers, maybe your burden or grief, sin or pain, whatever is on your heart." said Thompson, adding, "We've got a prayer written out for you, we want it to be a blessing to you. So take that and let it be an encouragement to you today."
By noon Friday Thompson said about a dozen people had driven through asking for prayer.
"Very personal needs, very important things. People are concerned about their finances, being employed, and financial security," he said.
Thompson said he hopes to continue holding the unique service each year,
The drive through vigil continues until Friday at midnight.
