NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A homeowner lost her cat when her south Nashville home caught fire midday Saturday.
The fire at the house in the 300 block of Valeria Street in the Woodbine area broke out shortly before 12 Noon.
The homeowner told Nashville's News 2 she had just left the home right before the fire started.
At first, firefighters thought they were responding a smoke inhalation call but received several calls on the way that in fact it was a structure fire.
When they arrived, there were flames and heavy smoke coming from the rear of the house.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to contain the blaze.
The fire started on the second floor and also caused damage to the attic.
No one was inside the home at the time, but the homeowner said her cat died in the fire.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
