CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Authorities arrested a retired Montgomery County football coach Tuesday on charges he raped a 16-year-old girl.
Phillip Carter Horsey, 70, taught and coached football at Montgomery Central High School and has a stadium named in his honor.
He is charged with rape and sexual battery in a grand jury indictment issued in April.
According to a report in the Leaf Chronicle, Horsey is accused of digitally penetrating a 16-year-old girl and having sexual contact with her by fondling her breasts in March.
Horsey began working for the Montgomery County School System in 1971. He retired during the 1997-98 school year and served as head football coach, the paper reported.
Montgomery Central High School's football field, Phillip Horsey Field, is named in his honor.
Horsey is scheduled to appear in court next month.
