LEWISBURG, Tenn. -

A Marshall County woman was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville early Monday morning after she was doused with boiling cooking grease while sleeping.

Lindsey Arp, 23, was able to run to a neighbor's home for help after the incident at the Lewisburg home she shared with her former boyfriend, Ryan Haase, his two children and her baby.

Police told Nashville's News 2 Arp and Haase were having problems and she wanted him out of the home.

According to police, the couple had gotten into a fight on Sunday and Haase left the home.   He returned around 2 a.m. Monday and poured hot cooking oil on her body.

"She thought it was boiling water, didn't even know it was oil," Detective Scott Braden said.

He continued, "He was in the process of leaving.  She [wanted] to end the relationship and move on and I don't believe he was willing or ready to do that and she was forcing it on [him] pretty quick."

Neighbor Annie Tyskevych said she was unaware the couple was having problems.

"She was never outside, but we all thought well, she has a five or six-month-old baby, so maybe she is just inside with the baby, we didn't really know what was going on," she said.

Haase, 34, turned himself in at the Marshall County Sheriff's Department and confessed to pouring the hot oil.

He is charged with attempted criminal homicide was being held in the Marshall County jail without bond.

Lewisburg police said Arp suffered life-threatening burns over 35% of her body, including her face, chest, arm, leg and side.

She remained in critical, but stable condition Tuesday night at Vanderbilt.

Police said Haase has a history of drug problems.

The investigation was ongoing and more charges were possible.
