MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A local non-profit organization is preparing for its third annual prom dress giveaway.

Archie's Promise Prom Dress Drive will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church on DeJarnette Lane in Murfreesboro.

Event organizer Claressa Johnson began stockpiling dresses last fall.

She told Nashville's News 2, "It's so important for young girls to not miss their prom.  It's a once in a lifetime event.  Just because you can't afford it or money's tight, we're here to help."

The prom dress giveaway is open to students on the free or reduced lunch program, those that have a parent on disability, or whose family is impacted by unemployment.

This year, Johnson said so many dresses were donated they had to get a storage unit to keep them all.

"We had so many more dresses than we've had in the past two years," she said.  "We had about 500 dresses, and we needed a storage unit just to house them all."

Not only have the donations increased, the number of girls that will benefit from the dresses will likely also go up this year.

Last year, the number of girls helped in Rutherford and Williamson counties doubled from the previous year.  This year, eligible girls from all over Tennessee are invited to attend.
