Mayor Dean encourages Nashvillians to walk 100 miles

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Mayor Karl Dean has started a new effort to encourage more Nashvillians to improve their health by participating in more than two dozen walks scheduled in Davidson County.

The mayor created a plan to walk 100 miles in upcoming months. The first of the 28 scheduled walks begins on Saturday, April 2.

The more than two dozen walks range from two to 10 miles in length throughout Metro parks and greenways, as well as the Bicentennial Mall Park and Radnor Lake.

"We think if we can get people out on the street starting to exercise, taking advantage of our greenways [and] our parks, we'll have a healthier city," Dean told Nashville's News 2.

Those participants that meet the 100 mile goal will be invited to a celebration in downtown Nashville on July 9.
