MANCHESTER, Tenn. – Interstate 24 in Coffee County was shut down for nearly five hours early Friday after a tractor trailer struck and killed two people as they worked to repair their broken down pickup truck.

The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes at mile marker 110 in Manchester around 2:30 a.m.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Ronald Brannon, 55, and Richard Taylor, 31, were outside their pickup truck when they were hit.

Both men were from Florida.  They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Eastbound traffic was diverted at exit 105 until the interstate reopened just before 7 a.m.

The THP said the driver of the semi-truck, 57-year-old Dale Wallace, of Hixson, would not face charges.
