MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee State University student accused of first degree murder appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon.
Shanterrica Madden is accused in the murder of her roommate and MTSU basketball player, Tina Stewart.
Stewart, 21, was found stabbed to death earlier this month in her off campus apartment in Murfreesboro.
Madden's lawyer, Joe Brandon Jr. has claimed his client acted in self-defense.
Brandon filed a motion this week for a court order.
The attorney wants to use cell phone records, the victim's computer and both women's Twitter accounts to preserve evidence in the case.
"Yesterday we got a subpoena issued and the court signed it to Twitter. There are some issues with the respect to getting Twitter served. And like I said in the motion, evidence exists but nebulous is being able to obtain,"Brandon said.
He continued, "So all I'm trying to do is make sure the evidence is preserved. Nothing more, we just want to go the extra mile,"
