Man killed in I-24 wreck in Rutherford Co.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A male driver was killed on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County Monday morning after colliding with a semi-truck.

The crash at mile marker 87, southeast of Murfreesboro, was reported in the westbound lanes shortly after 10 a.m.

Officials on the scene said the driver of a larger box truck rear-ended an 18-wheeler.

The impact crumbled the truck's cab, pinning the driver inside.

"He was pinned in," Randy White, a spokesman for the Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service, told the Daily News Journal.  "Our guys were very heroic on that call.  We just couldn't get to him."

Slick road conditions were believed to be a contributing factor to the fatal crash.

White continued, "People are hydroplaning is what the problem is.  We've had so much rain.  The interstates can't take that much water.  When you are driving 70 to 80 miles per hour, that's when you start to hit the back of trucks and skid off the road."

The victim's name was not immediately released.

The interstate reopened by about 1 p.m.
