CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.  – A Clarksville man was arrested early Christmas morning after shooting his live-in girlfriend during an argument, Clarksville police said.

Shortly after 2:40 a.m., officers responded to a home on Buchanon Drive to find Samantha Marie Miller with a gunshot wound to her head.

Miller was transported to a local hospital and later to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville where she died from her injuries.

Her boyfriend, Timothy Andrew Putnam, was also in the home the two shared, as well as two juveniles who placed the initial call to police.

Putnam, 27, told officers he shot Miller by accident.

He was taken into custody and will be charged with criminal homicide.

Putnam is being held in the Montgomery County jail without bond.

The children are currently being cared for by family members.
