CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Montgomery County authorities say they have put a career criminal back behind bars.

They say Joshua Charles Dunlap, 24, of Clarksville, had bonded out on June 25 after being charged with Driver's License Required and Vandalism.

He was taken back into custody a few days later after breaking into a car.

At 9:30a.m. Monday, a resident on Cherokee Trail heard a horn sound from a vehicle from the driveway.

The vehicle owner looked outside and saw a man, later identified as Dunlap, exiting from the vehicle with a camera bag and a rifle.

Dunlap then headed towards the woods.

When police were searching for him in the woods, the rifle discharged.

Officers ordered him to the ground and found that he was in the possession of the camera case and drug paraphernalia.

Detectives were able to link Dunlap to three other burglaries and a stolen vehicle.

In addition to his two previous charges, Dunlap is now charged with four counts of vehicle burglary, five counts of aggravated assault, theft, unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon and unlawful drug paraphernalia.

He has an extensive criminal history involving assault, robbery and theft.

Dunlap remains in the Montgomery County Jail on $822,500 bond.
