FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Police in Franklin arrested a former NASCAR driver Wednesday night following a two-car crash in which he was driving but switched seats with his passenger before police arrived.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Hillsboro Road near Del Rio Pike.

Franklin police said Joe Henderson was traveling south on Hillsboro Road when he rear-ended the vehicle in front of him.

When police arrived, the other driver told officers Henderson switched seats with his passenger after the impact.

Henderson, whose license is revoked, was booked into the Williamson County jail on charges of driving on a revoked driver's license, his second offense, and failure to exercise due care.

He has since been released on bond.

The Franklin native emerged as a NASCAR driver through the association's Drive for Diversity driver development program and piloted the No. 77 Kodak EasyShare car in 2004 and 2005.

He was one of the five original Drive for Diversity drivers selected for the program and in 2004, scored eight top 10 finishes in 20 races.
