MT. JULIET, Tenn. – A trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol was critically injured Monday afternoon in an accident on Interstate 40 East in Wilson County.

The trooper, identified as 42-year-old Wendall Reagan, was attempting to make a u-turn when he lost control of his SUV and flipped into the median near the Belinda City exit shortly after 12 Noon.

Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesperson Mike Browning said Reagan is from the Cookeville area and was returning to his district following a training exercise in Nashville.

He was on duty at the time of the crash.

Reagan was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he was last listed in critical condition.

"The passenger compartment did hold up real well in this vehicle, so the trooper is in critical condition, our thoughts and prayers are with him at this time and we hope everything turns out okay for the trooper," said Sgt. Stacey Heatherly.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Authorities are looking for a white Chevy Suburban or GMC Yukon.  Investigators do not believe the white vehicle was involved but may have witnessed the crash.

Police said Reagan was wearing his seatbelt.

Trooper Reagan was commissioned with the THP in 2001

He is assigned to Overton County in the Cookeville District and serves in Special Programs, where he is responsible for the New Entrant Program.

New Entrant educates commercial vehicle carriers in rules and regulations.
