NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Sheriff's deputies in Davidson County will continue to use 287(g) to determine whether inmates are in the country legally.
The Metro Council voted last week to renew the immigration database program.
Those against the program gathered outside the Metro courthouse before the council's meeting.
They say deporting illegal immigrants for misdemeanor offenses is wrong because it breaks up families.
Police agencies across the country have used the federal program to deport suspected criminals for the last few years and each year, the program expands to additional cities.
