Abundance of McNair memorabilia online

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Sports cards, jerseys, helmets and figurines of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair aren't selling as well as some had thought following his untimely death.

John Dunphy, owner of Cards R Run on Trousdale Drive, said it's typical for sports memorabilia to rise in popularity and prices following the death of the athlete.

"If he gets in the Hall of Fame, the prices will go up.  I guarantee that but yeah, I'm a little surprised it isn't as high as it is expected to be," he told News 2 Tuesday, three days after McNair and his 20-year-old girlfriend Sahel Kazemi were found shot to death.

Online Tuesday, News 2 found an autographed mini-helmet for $200 on eBay, a pair of game-worn pair of white cleats for $1,500 and a used practice jersey for just $10.

One reason there may not be a lot of demand for McNair's items now is that he was so accessible to fans when he was alive.

Cards R Fun has an autographed Oilers hat signed by McNair and former teammate Eddie George, and an autographed McNair rookie card for $30.

Dunphy said they have not raised prices on McNair's items since his death on Saturday.
