Beech High School student killed in car crash

WKRN web staff - HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - A Beech High School student died in a car crash Friday night.

Police responded to the scene around 6 p.m. off Highway 25. Authorities said the driver, 16-year-old Coleman Midgett, was killed after the car ran off the road and slammed into a tree.

The teenager was taken to Sumner Regional Medical Center where he died.

The front seat passenger and the driver, both 17 years old, were also taken to area hospitals and were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police said all of the teens had on their seat belts.

Sumner County Schools released a statement:

Beech High School, the Beech community and Sumner County Schools grieves the loss of Coleman Midgett. Coleman was well liked by his fellow students and his teachers and will be greatly missed.

Extra counselors will be on hand to help students and staff process this tragic loss.

Out of respect to our students and staff during the grieving process, the Beech school complex will be closed to media for the remainder of the school week.

Officers are still investigating the crash.

Visitation services for Coleman Midgett will take place at Anderson & Garrett Funeral Home on Nov. 20 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Another visitation will take place on Nov. 21 from 11 p.m. until the funeral service starts at 1 p.m. at Long Hollow Baptist Church.
