NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - One person is in custody and another is on the run after an attempted carjacking in the Percy Priest area Saturday afternoon.

It happened a little after 3 p.m. on Bell Road, not far from Stewart's Ferry Pike.

K.C. Freels told News 2 he was dropping someone off at their car when two people ambushed him and pointed a revolver in his face. A short time later, an officer who happened to be in the area pulled up and Freels decided to wrestle the weapon away.

"While they were sitting there going through my stuff, I see an officer pull up out of the corner of my vision and the fellow with the gun turns his head a little bit to look at that, and I just jammed the gun into the ceiling of the car and he fired," Freels explained.

The bullet flew over his head, firing into the liner of the car roof and landing in his passenger seat.

"I just kept wrestling the guy for it. I was honestly trying to wrestle it back on him."

The two suspects ran with his wallet, cell phone and range bag, which had a pistol in it, while Freels held on to their revolver. Freels says he can't explain what pushed him to take such a bold move with two gunmen in his car.

"The craziest part is, you know, they bailed and I had the gun. I didn't expect to find that in myself, honestly. I didn't expect myself to find the ability to fight for the gun," Freels teared up.

He went on to explain how the near death experience has changed his perspective on life.

One of the suspect was apprehended, identified as 41-year-old Harry Dillard, but police are still looking for the second person.

Dillard was booked into the Metro jail and charged with aggravated burglary and possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $80,000.

A K9 unit was called to the scene to assist in the search.
