Ice hits parts of Mid-State, closes several school systems

Posted: Updated:

An Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 12 noon Tuesday for areas north of Davidson County and into Kentucky.

Icy road conditions forced several school systems to close for the day or open an hour or two late.  Click here for a complete up-to-the minute list of closings and delays.

Slick bridges, overpasses and ice clinging to trees and power lines were a common sight in Montgomery, Robertson and Sumner counties.

Accumulating ice on power lines in Clarksville caused more than 8,000 people to be without power early Tuesday morning.

As of 8 a.m., power had been restored to about 3,000 residents.

Cheatham County reported rain, slick spots, and ice on trees and power lines.

In Nashville overnight temperatures hovered around freezing.  There were no reports of ice accumulating on power lines or trees.

Sporadic power outages, however, were reported in northern parts of Davidson County, from Joelton to Pennington Bend.

A Freezing Rain Advisory remains in effect for Nashville and surrounding counties along Interstate 40 until 12 noon Tuesday.

Steady, moderate rainfall is expected for the remainder of the day Tuesday in Davidson County, with a high temperature expected in the low 40s.

The rain is expected to taper off Wednesday in the form of snow.  An inch of accumulation is possible.
