A statement posted on the Williamson County GOP's Web site is causing outrage in Nashville's Kurdish community.
"This is absolutely racist," said Isa Tayib after reading a statement posted on the Republican Web site.
In part, it says, "...There are 8,000 Kurdish immigrants living here in Nashville trying to repay our hospitality by robbing us and dealing drugs."
Tayib, director of the Tennessee Kurdish community council, was shocked when he heard about the statement posted on the Williamson County republican's website.
The post can be found right below a message from the organizations chairman, Doug Grindstaff. It's in a section titled "Outrage of the Week."
Tayib said, "This is really not something that we expect from a political party to post something like this on their Web site. It should be removed as soon as possible."
The Williamson County GOP was unreachable for comment.
It appears the "outrage" was not only against the 8,000 Kurdish Americans but the media for not reporting on the conviction of two criminals, who just so happen to be of Kurdish decent.
"They don't represent the entire Kurdish community," said Tayib, and warns the GOP that the Kurdish people they speak of "are citizens who can vote."
