Travelers departing from Nashville International Airport will now go through one security checkpoint instead of two.
Airport officials predict the single access point should make it easier for filers to get through security.
A ribbon cutting ceremony opened the single security access point at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mayor Karl Dean and several others were on hand.
The combination of the security checkpoints is part of the airport's ongoing terminal overhaul.
It is the first interior renovation since the airport opened more than two decades ago.
Phase I of the renovation also includes new retail, food and beverage options, concourse skylights and flight information panels.
Nashville International Airport opened in 1987.
Renovations began in October 2006 and are expected to last five years.
