Rock Harbor Marina threatened by burning yacht

A fire on a yacht at the Rock Harbor Marina threatened dozens of other boats and people enjoying a day on the water.

The marina owner said the 53-foot long yacht caught fire while it was docked with no one on board.

Arch Kelley said he had to act fast.

"Thank God I saved my marina and saved a lot of people from getting hurt," he said.

Kelley jumped on the yacht while it was on fire and used a smaller boat to tow it toward the edge of the marina, where it burned for hours.

The boat's owner, Larry White, watched his $750,000 yacht burn uncontrollably in front of him.

He told News 2 he had just polished the yacht and was planning on using it soon.

White said he bought the boat, Lady Andrea, about four years ago and spent the time traveling.

Watching the fire destroy the yacht was hard for him.

"It's traumatic. I got out... I don't know what to say.  You get attached to a boat," he said.

After trying to put the fire out on board, firefighters had to pull back because of extreme heat and unsafe conditions.

They let the flames burn themselves out, and Lady Andrea eventually sank.

The Nashville Fire Department said they do not think they'll be able to find a cause of the fire.

White told News 2 he thinks the fire may have been electrical.
