Clarksville pastor killed in accident with goat

A Montgomery County pastor was killed Tuesday after authorities said he was attacked by a goat.

Reverend Liston G. Richardson's wife Lucille found her husband's body outside their home of Highway 13 in Clarksville Tuesday afternoon.

She said the rope used to tie up the goat was wrapped around the pastor's neck and feet.

When she tried to get near her husband, she said the goat tried to attack her.

Later, the goat tried to charge EMS workers.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ted Denny said Richardson was apparently killed by the goat, while attempting to return it to a fenced-in area.

Reports also indicate Richardson, 76, had a heart condition and recently had triple-bypass surgery.  That could have contributed to his death.

Denny said the Richardson's son ended up shooting the goat.

Richardson was the minister at Sunnyview Independent Missionary Baptist Church for nearly 30 years.

An autopsy will not be performed.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and dthen Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sykes Funeral Home in Clarksville.

Richardson's funeral will take place Friday at 2 p.m.
