NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former Titans quarterback Steve McNair's restaurant will soon reopen under new ownership.

Alexis Springer purchased Gridiron 9 from McNair's estate.

Springer did not personally know McNair, but wants to carry on what the football star started.

"We want to make sure we carry on his legacy in a positive light," she said.  "We're fans like everyone else and we want to make sure we pay homage and respect to somewhere he put his heart and soul into and this was his last venture before his untimely death."

Gridiron 9 is located on Jefferson Street and 28th Avenue in north Nashville, near Tennessee State University.

Springer has been cleaning the restaurant, trying to get it ready to serve TSU students and the local community.

"They left it in great condition," Springer said. "He put a lot of money into the equipment, so there were excellent things that were left here so we definitely want to put it to good use."

McNair's family asked Springer to not use Steve McNair's name or likeness, but patrons of the old Gridiron 9 will see a lot of similarities.

"Although we won't be able to use Steve McNair's name or his likeness in the business, we want to make sure we continue his legacy and his dream of what vision he had set up for this business, making sure we're involved in the community, organizations such as the boys and girls club, other organizations that he was involved in," Springer said.

Springer said she hopes to reopen the restaurant in a week.
