NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Nashville International Airport has been undergoing construction over the past year and is continuing to make progress.
Renovations are being made inside and out during the second phase of construction.
One of the biggest changes people will notice is the bathrooms inside the airport. They will feature low-flow fixtures, automatic sensors, and hand dryers.
The newest bathroom is set to open Friday on the baggage claim level.
Another big project in Phase II is renovating the airport's parking situation.
Tyler Beevers, a resident of Nashville, flies out of the airport about once a week.
He told News 2 that parking during construction has been a bit hectic.
"It's been a little stressful. The parking situation has been somewhat difficult," he said.
The airport is in the process of creating a new three-level parking structure that will house 2,400 rental cars along with 10 rental car companies.
Construction on the new parking garage began last February and is scheduled to be completed in 18 months.
Despite the stress that renovations might cause for customers, the airport has created 350 jobs to ensure the new facilities are completed.
Airport officials hope that all of the improvements will make every traveler's life a bit easier.
These are all improvements the airport hopes will ultimately make everyone's life easier.
"I've lived here for 17 years and I've seen a lot of progress and it's a beautiful airport," said Janis Lovecchio, who uses the airport regularly.
"We always brag about it to our friends," she added.
Phase II of the interior renovations at the airport should be done in 2011.
