RUTHERFORD CO., Tenn. – The search resumed Tuesday morning for a swimmer who dove into Percy Priest Lake Monday afternoon and never resurfaced.
Detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said the 21-year-old man dove from a 10-foot bluff near the Bryant's Grove Boat Ramp in northeastern Rutherford County just before 4 p.m.
Agencies from both Rutherford and Davidson counties responded as the water accident occurred almost exactly on the county line.
Rescue crews spent four hours on Monday searching Percy Priest Lake but were unable to find the man.
Divers concentrated their efforts near bluffs between the boat ramp and the public swimming area. Sonar devices were also used.
Dive and boat teams called the search off at sundown.
The search resumed at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The search comes less than one day after a man drowned in Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville.
It is also the second time in less than a week that authorities have responded to a water rescue on Percy Priest Lake.
A man drowned in Percy Priest Lake last Thursday night after his boat collided with another boat near the Fate Sanders Recreation Area in Smyrna.
