WHITE BLUFF, Tenn. – The man suspected of fatally shooting a Dickson County woman and severely beating her grown son surrendered to authorities at his brother's home on Wolfe Road in White Bluff Tuesday morning.

Authorities said James Hamilton shot and killed 62-year-old Faye Lynn at her home on Lake Circle Drive in Dickson Monday morning and injured her son, Doug, who is quadriplegic and bedridden.

Hamilton's brother, police said, was instrumental in urging his brother to turn himself in.  He surrendered without incident.

The 50-year-old Hamilton is charged with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder.

A motive for the shooting and beating was not known although Hamilton knew his victims and stayed at their home on several occasions over the last six weeks.

Doug Lynn, who is in his 30's, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

He was listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon.
